Lancaster might not be what you expect, and that’s exactly the point. While it’s known for rolling farmland and small-town charm, those who live here know it’s also home to a remarkably dynamic lifestyle.

You’ll find our food scene that rivals bigger cities – independent restaurants, nationally recognized chefs, and inventive farmers market fare. Boutique shopping and vintage stores line our main streets. Outdoor adventure is everywhere – rail trails, wooded hikes, and the wide-open beauty of the Susquehanna River. And our calendar stays full: art walks, music festivals, brewery pop-ups, and cultural celebrations that draw locals out week after week.

But Lancaster County isn’t just exciting on the weekends, it’s livable every day. From fitness studios and grocery stores to rec leagues and social clubs – life here runs on both energy and ease.

brews & vines

Whether you’re sipping wine in the countryside or grabbing a beer downtown, you’ll find drinks that are rooted in local ingredients, built on tradition, and crafted with care.

From the vines – at Waltz Vineyards, Grandview Vineyard, and Nissley Vineyards, find award-winning wines poured just steps from where the grapes are grown. Grandview Vineyard and Thorn Hill offer patio views, tastings, and live music.

Our local beer holds its own. Lancaster Brewing Company helped put craft beer on the map here, and newer spots like Our Town Brewery and Mad Chef Craft Brewing are pushing flavor in fresh directions. Wacker Brewing brings back Lancaster’s pre-Prohibition beer roots, while Bepsoke Brewing, Rural City Beer Co., and St. Boniface add character to the county’s growing taproom scene. You can even taste the world at places like Bert & the Elephant and Bierhall Brewing Company.

Prefer cocktails? We’ve got that too. Thistle Finch Distillery distills rye whiskey and gin in a restored tobacco warehouse. Stoll & Wolfe carries on a Pennsylvania distilling legacy, hotspots like Zoetropolis is slinging their very own Lancaster Distilleries products.

You’ll find local cider, mead, seltzers, and even wine slushies if that’s your thing.

Like the food scene, Lancaster’s drink scene is about variety, authenticity, and experience. You’ll find industrial taprooms, countryside patios, historic cellars, and walkable urban tasting rooms—all offering a sip of Lancaster’s personality. There’s a certain pride in knowing the beer in your hand or the wine in your glass was made right here—in your own backyard, by people who call Lancaster home.

café culture & sweet treats

Lancaster’s love of good coffee runs deep. From early-morning roasts to late-afternoon lattes, our cafés are more than caffeine stops – they’re community hubs, creative spaces, and cozy corners where locals gather, work, catch up, and slow down.

In the city, Passenger Coffee, Square One, and Cafe One Eight offer artful roasting and inviting places to start your day or settle in. But Lancaster County’s caffeine fix goes far beyond city blocks. You’ll find these cozy corners throughout the County – CoffeeCo, Copper Cup, New Holland Coffee Co. and Mill 72 Bake Shop & Café. And if you’re a tea drinker? Don’t miss A Tea Affair serving up afternoon tea and experiences!

And when it’s time for something sweet, we take that seriously too. Lancaster County is a hotspot for delicious, locally made ice cream. Try Fox Meadows Creamery, Lapp Valley Farm, Oregon Dairy, Pine View Dairy, Mezcla Ice Cream, or Greco’s Italian Ices & Homemade Ice Cream – you can’t go wrong with ice cream as a summertime sweet. Who are we kidding? We eat it all year long.

But it’s not just ice cream. Lancaster serves up hand-crafted cupcakes from Lancaster Cupcake, treats at Lancaster Beignet Co. and Lancaster Pie & CoffeeButter & Bean, baked-from-scratch cookies at Bird-in-Hand Bake Shop, and warm sticky buns and shoofly pie at markets and bakeries across the county. Whether you’re craving macarons, donuts, milkshakes, or a whoopie pie (yes, really) – you’re in good hands.

It’s part of our everyday life to grab a coffee on the way to work or stop for ice cream after a long day, it’s how we savor the moments that make Lancaster feel like home.

markets & grocery

In Lancaster, we’re lucky to have access to food that’s grown nearby, made by hand, and sold straight from the source.

Farmers markets flourish here, offering heirloom vegetables, free-range meats, just-picked fruit, and breads still warm from the oven. You’ll find it at places like Lancaster Central Market, the country’s oldest continuously operating public market, where local farmers, butchers, bakers, and global food vendors fill the stalls each week. You’ll also see it at seasonal farm stands on winding back roads, community-supported agriculture (CSA) pick-ups with Lancaster Farm Fresh, and long-running staples like Root’s Market and Green Dragon.

Grocery shopping here blends local and everyday. We’ve got boutique grocers like Lemon Street Market focused on organic and locally sourced goods, and hometown favorites like Stauffers of Kissel Hill, where you’ll find fresh produce alongside gourmet items and garden supplies. Even our national chains reflect our values—Wegmans, Weis, and Giant all make room for Pennsylvania-made products and local partnerships.

Around here, knowing where your food comes from isn’t something we save for Saturdays, it’s built into how we eat, how we shop, and how we live.

after hours
